Our family’s philosophy

We are a family owned and operated catering company based out of Occidental and Sebastopol, CA in beautiful Sonoma County. Our goal with this company is to provide small farmers in Sonoma and Marin Counties with another way to sell their produce at top dollar, while providing our clients with the best local produce and meat on the market. We are real humans, not some big faceless company like Safeway, and we like dealing with other real humans face to face. Traveling out to small farms in this county to see exactly what they are up to BEFORE we buy is one of our favorite parts of the job–and we will never stop doing that. To us, it is worth the extra buck to support sustainable food systems that work with this planet so that we can continue living on it. An economy where WE know the farmer and you know US, the people putting the food on your plate, is an economy that is ideal in our eyes. That is what we want in this world. That is what we provide. We are Conscious Cooks.

Rachel (Mom)

Chef Rachel

An avid gardener for as long as she can remember, Rachel headed catering jobs as a gourmet chef for over ten years. Her first food experience was cooking for her 3 younger sisters growing up; years down the road she found herself owning a small cafe with a big name down in southern California, managing the food for anything from large weddings and smaller office meals: All while working as the full-time food and beverage manager for a large retirement community. After relocating to a slower paced lifestyle in Occidental, CA a few years ago she decided to take off the chef’s hat and soak in the scenery. “I thought I knew about food until I got to Sonoma County. The slow food movement, and all of the farmer’s I have met here so far have really inspired me to get back in the kitchen”.  After dusting off her chef’s hat,  she is at it again–providing honest, professional food to the local community again.

Seth

Working hand in hand with Rachel during the “cafe days” of catering, Seth eventually was running smaller 50 person full service gigs for the family by himself. Taking his knowledge from those experiences, and picking more up along the way, he has since worked as a coffee shop manager and a customer service/marketing assistant for a large seed company out of Petaluma. Now,  he is living in an intentional community in northern Sebastopol and runs an organic farm on the land. A homesteader at heart, he spends most of his time trying to learn how to live off the land while forming mutually beneficial relationships with local farmers.

Just getting into high school, this towering giant (6′ 2″!!) can be seen with us at festivals and other events serving delicious food. An amazing artist, his paintings can be seen all over Rachel’s house–contributing to the aura quite nicely. A quick learner, he’s becoming a part of the team very fast.
